Overview
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive and extremely effective therapy which can significantly reduce the growth of unwanted hair.
Unwanted hair from excessive or inappropriate hair growth may appear for a variety of reasons. This can cause immense distress and affect self esteem. Methods such as shaving, waxing, chemical removal and electrolysis all have significant limitations and are not always appropriate or effective.
The most recent innovation is the use of Laser technology, which provides a more effective alternative. The Laser hair removal system provided at Be. Beauty and Laser Clinic can now offer a treatment which is more permanent and efficient than other treatments currently available.
How does it work?
The medical grade laser emits an intense beam of light which passes safely through the upper skin layers to the underlying strata. Hair follicles are then eliminated by a process known as selective photothermolysis, which treats the problem without harming the skin.
Is the process safe?
This process is completely harmless and totally safe when administered by a trained operator. I have successfully completed the accredited training course required to administer this treatment and have undertaken several other advanced laser courses subsequently to increase knowledge and ensure I am continually developing professionally.
How does it feel?
Patients may experience slight discomfort. during the treatment but with no long term effects. It is generally accepted however, that Laser hair removal is more comfortable than waxing or electrolysis and has a far superior recovery rate.
How many treatments are needed?
Due to the natural growth cycle of each hair follicle, several treatments may be required to achieve optimal results. Each hair follicle goes through growing and resting phases, but hair is most sensitive to Laser treatment whilst in the growing (anagen) phase. In most patients, successful removal can be achieved following a short course of treatments.
Hair colour and skin type influence the success of laser hair removal. The basic principle is that the pigment of the hair, but not the pigment of the skin, should absorb the light. The laser should damage only the hair follicle while avoiding damage to the skin. Therefore, a contrast between hair and skin colour — dark hair and light skin — results in the best outcomes.
The risk of damage to skin is greater when there is little contrast between hair and skin colour, but advances in laser technology have made laser hair removal an option for people who have darker skin. Laser hair removal is less effective for hair colours that don’t absorb light well: grey, red, blond and white.
Benefits of Laser Hair Removal
Once the hair follicles have been destroyed, they will not grow back. This means that you can say goodbye to unwanted hair for good and get lasting results.
Other methods of hair removal such as plucking, waxing, threading and sugaring can cause ingrown hairs. Some clients and certain ethnicities are more prone to this than others. Laser hair removal works by destroying hair at the root, which means that it eliminates hair from growing back and potentially becoming ingrown.
Most people see permanent, lasting results with laser hair removal. In some cases, you may need a touch-up a few months or years down the line, but it remains one of the best long-term solutions available.
At minimum, you will see a permanent reduction in hair growth that becomes easier to maintain over time. Typically, clients see a 10% reduction in hair after each session
Because it’s a long-term solution, it’s also cost effective. Over the course of your lifetime, you can save hundreds or even thousands of pounds, as there won’t be a need for monthly waxes or spending on razors or hair removal cream for at home treatments
Waxing, threading, tweezing and electrolysis require you to have hair regrowth before each session – for many women this can be traumatic and embarrassing. With laser hair removal, you can enjoy smooth, hair-free skin at all times as your skin needs to be shaved between sessions so there is never any need to grow hair.
I am extremely mindful that hair removal can be an important part of transitioning for members of the trans and gender-expansive communities and can help with feelings of dysphoria or unease. I specialize in hair-removal treatments for ALL genders and am especially proud to offer hair removal to clients who identify as trans or gender-expansive.
